Claesson Koivisto Rune designs new chair for the Swedish Design Museum
The Röhsska chair was presented in Gothenburg on September 4, 2012, at the inauguration of the new Röhsska café. The world introduction will take place in London 19th – 22nd September 2012 During 100% Design London, Stand L310, Interiors Hall, Earl’s Court Exhibition Centre 2.
The Röhsska Museum of Design and Decorative Arts in Gothenburg opened to the general public in 1916 and is Sweden’s only museum for design, fashion and handicrafts. The opening of the newly renovated Röhsska café is a start of Röhsska’s centennial celebrations.
Claesson Koivisto Rune designed the new chair for the museum’s café. The chair is 100% wood and 100% made in Sweden by furniture company, Swedese.
”The Röhsska chair is perhaps the chair we’ve designed, so far, that has given us the greatest satisfaction. Of course, it follows a Scandinavian modern tradition of wooden chair design but is, in our minds, distinctly contemporary in shape and proportions. Some 60 years (combined) of our design experience has gone into sculpting this chair”, says Mårten Claesson of Claesson Koivisto Rune.
The Röhsska chair is now part of Swedese’s collection and for every chair sold Swedese is donating 50 kronor to the purposely-formed Swedese Foundation, which will promote the quality and competence of the design museum.
